Sunshine and spectacular views! Our four days in San Francisco with the Silman family was full of adventure.
We booked a great little AirBNB unit at Ocean Beach and spent our first afternoon at the local brew house planning the next couple of days.

One of the “must do” things in San Fran is to hire some bikes and ride through Golden Gate Park and across the Golden Gate Bridge. We picked up our bikes and cycled the hilly streets to get to our destination.
The gale-force winds on the bridge provided us with an interesting ride, but the views were spectacular! We continued on to Sausalito for a delicious seafood lunch (ordering the Clam Chowder is a must) and took a ferry back to Fishermans Warf to see the sea lions and enjoy a happy hour cocktail or two.
Day three we made our way to downtown to ride a traditional cable car and stopped at Lombard Street to take a snap of the tourist site made famous by a postcard image in 1961…
No trip to San Fran is complete without a tour of Alcatraz. The notorious prison closed in 1963 after housing some of Americas most well-known criminals including “Scarface” Al Capone and Robert “Birdman” Stroud.
The 20 minute ferry ride over gave us time to do a little research about Alcatraz, which was once a Civil War fortress and a military prison. The award winning audio tour of the cell house was a highlight and gave us some real insight into the prison conditions as well as a look at the cells of the only three prisoners to successfully escape (their story immortalised in the 1979 film Escape from Alcatraz).
Our last day in San Fran was spent visiting Union Square, China Town, Coit Tower and the Ferry Building Market.
