Sand, sun, cocktails and fun!

Hola amigos! Our week of sun, sand and unlimited cocktails in Cancun had arrived in time to celebrate Tom’s 30th birthday!

We stayed in the Gran Caribe Resort on the main tourist strip and our Oceanfront Suites were worth every dollar! Beautiful rooms with stunning views looking right out over the sandy white beaches and bright blue ocean.

After checking in, it was straight to the beach bar for cocktails and a swim. The weather was beautiful, the sand was soft and the water as welcoming as Miami’s perfect temperatures.

That night we enjoyed a show of Mexican folk dancing while deciding which of the five restaurants to try first!

Day two and it was cocktails and cabanas on the beach. Wait service for the bar kept our glasses full and the nearby beach kept us cool. It was the perfect day.

Day 3 Tom and I decided to pick up the pace with a tour out to Chichen Itza.

We drove out to the Yucatan region and our first stop was a beautiful cenote (underground sink hole) for a swim and some lunch. Cenotes were for the Maya sacred places of life and death, as their source of water and as the gateway to the underworld. They called them Dzonot, which means “cave with water”.

After lunch we made our way to Chichen Itza. The main ruin – a Mayan temple – was surrounded by other ruins and was used by the civilisation as a clock and Mayan calendar.

Despite the shape of it, it’s actually not a pyramid, there’s no remaining Mayan pyramids left – one of the last ones was knocked down by early settlers to build this church we visited on our way back to Cancun.

Day 4 – HAPPY 30TH TOM!

The birthday drinks and grandpa Tom jokes were flowing today to celebrate the milestone birthday!

Liam and Kath booked a VIP bungalow for premium drinks and food service and we all enjoyed a boozy day on the beach… TEQUILA!

While the boys were a little worse for wear that night (nothing water, cheeseburger and a nap can’t fix), we pushed on to our evening birthday plans – Coco Bongo nightclub. The club was out of this world amazing, with cabaret shows, confetti canons, giant balloons and awesome music! See for yourself…

Day 5 and as you can imagine, it was rough…

We managed to emerge from our rooms by the afternoon to enjoy our last day by the pool and devour one more Mexican dinner.

It was a perfect end to a great three weeks with the Silmans! We were sad to say goodbye to our travel buddies.

We had so much fun with Liam and Kath and have so many great memories of our time together in USA & Mexico!
