Hopping off a 13 hour flight with a couple of hours sleep, we checked into our hostel, dumped the bags and went to explore the Yaletown and Gastown districts of Vancouver.
Surrounded by snow capped mountains, the city itself is quite picturesque. There’s a couple of little historical landmarks we checked out including the world’s first steam powered clock, which whistles a tune on the hour, and a statue of “Gassy Jack” (I think my dad is a distant relative).
Day two we headed up to Lynn Canyon Park just outside Vancouver. Here we took a short two-hour hike across the suspension bridge and down to Rice Lake, where locals were fly fishing for coral trout.
We spent the afternoon pedalling a couple of hire bikes around the Stanley Park Seawall and enjoyed the view of the cityscape and Lions Gate Bridge.
Tomorrow we pick up our hire car and head to Kelowna before arriving at our destination of Banff.
